We've had many ho'omaka hou since we made Hawaii our home three months ago. I've been busy, to say the least, with adjusting to our new life that I'm finding it hard to set aside time to blog about it. I'm praying that I will be able to dedicate a few minutes out of the day to update the happenings of our ohana (family).
These past three months came and went with a blink of an eye! Even though, I feel as if we've been here longer. Life on Hawaii is much slower that I'm used to back in California. I'm learning to slow down and "smell the roses" or plumeria, in my case.
So rather than create different posts I'll do a breakdown of what happened in months one, two and three:
Month One: Many of the events that happened in month one, you can read here. What I didn't get to post I'll share now. Since we live in Central Oahu, it'll take us an average of 20 minutes to get to any of the beaches. Needless to say, we visited them quite often. A few days before hubby was to start work, we went to one of our favorite beaches, Ko Olina. My beloved has picked up snorkeling as his new hobby. He loves to go out there with our son and literally swim with the fishes. Well, after this trip he developed some sort of ear infection or swimmer's ear. 'Til this day we're not exactly sure. He woke up to get ready for his first day of work and mentioned to me that he might have slept wrong because he was feeling pain around his neck and ear area. So he took some pain medication and headed off to work. Two weeks went by and the pain had increased tremendously! His lymph nodes were so swollen that it was the size of a door handle! Since his medical insurance hadn't kicked in yet, he couldn't go to the doctor. We didn't know what to do but pray!! So pray we did!! Then one day, one of his coworkers saw him researching for free clinics and mentioned that his cousin works at one. He gladly offered to take him there. Within an hour he drove my love to the clinic. Now I'm not too sure because I've never been in a free clinic before but I assume that there would be a long wait. By God's grace he was able to see a doctor right away! The doctor did some test and took some blood to see if there was an infection. He also gave my love stronger pain medication that really helped ease the pain. Unfortunately, the test results came back negative and the lump with still there. Downcast and concerned my love continued to go before the Lord and plead for God's merciful, healing hand. The next day, his boss and another one of his coworkers noticed he seemed in pain. After describing to them what had happened, the coworker mentioned that her husband is a doctor in the same town where we lived. She immediately called her husband to him that same day and to get antibiotics!! Wow! Praise the Lord!! So the kids and I picked him up and drove him to the doctor's office (again, no waiting) and got a prescription for antibiotics for the infected lymph node. But the blessings didn't end there. He was at the register to pay $40 for the medication then the pharmacy technician told him to hang on and she'll be right back. When she came back she said that she gave him a discount and the final bill was $11!!!! Can you believe it?! Wow, God is so good!! There was nothing that we were capable of doing to resolve this trial. My beloved was completely at the mercy of God!! The best place to be when going through suffering is on our knees before the throne of grace.
"Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer." (Psalm 4:1)
Month Two: Back in California we homeschooled our children. When we moved to Hawaii, we had every intention to continue homeschooling. Until we found out that we lived a half a block away from the #1 elementary school in the state!! So after much counsel and even more prayer, we decided to enroll our children into public school!!
YIKES!!
My heart was heavy with sorrow as we went from here to there getting their immunization shots up to date and filing out paperwork like crazy!
BTW, on a side note, wonderful thing about Hawaii. They have free medical coverage for qualified children (and adults). The children can received free TB and immunization shots if they're enrolling in school for the first time! What a blessing!
It took a while but we were finally able to enroll them. We were all scared and nervous. They have never been in a public school setting before so they didn't know what to expect. You can see the fear on their faces. As their counselor and I dropped them off to their classes, my heart became heavier and heavier. When it was time to leave, I held in the tears as I walked to back to my car to head home. Once I was home, I got on my knees and prayed for them. Then I cried like a baby! I missed them so much!
School has been challenging for all of them, learning new things always is. But their doing their best and as long as they do their best, their daddy and I will always be proud of them.
Here they are on their first day of school.
Month Three: OK...details on month three I'll post separately. Good thing too because this post is getting long. LOL!
